It’s the Bloggies again!

jennemede

I have shamelessly nominated my own blog under “Best Topical Blog” (since there is no ‘Asian American’ category and I’m not in Asia anymore for the “Best Asian blog” category, so this was the most fitting one I could, well, fit my shameless fat arse into).

Now I am shamelessly asking you to vote for me. Why? So I can get pregnant again. And I’m shameless.

:)

Please vote for me. I promise I’ll be good.

The Daily Blog

jennemede

I read quite a lot of feeds. Lokes takes a look at my Google Reader and goes, “I’m not exporting that OPML and stuffing it in your mobile Newsreader!”

Most of the stuff are feeds of friends and what I consider to be the ‘bloggerati’ of Malaysia: Marina Mahathir (outspoken AIDS activist daughter of Malaysia’s ex-PM), Rocky’s Bru (erstwhile editor of Malay Mail), Bibliobibuli (Grand Duchess of the Malaysian literature scene). And then there’s the usual Boing2, Techmeme and Memeorandum-type feeds to keep up with the Joneses.

Ever growing is my list of mommy blogs, all of which inspire me to write and blog more from a mommy’s perspective: Mom on a Wire, Mom-101, Finslippy (and her Alphamom column Wonderland), Breed ‘em and Weep, Mamatulip and so many more. I know some of you may cringe at the term ‘mommy blog’ but like it or not, you guys rock!

From today, I’ll start sharing some of my favourite feeds here. Will stick this up on my trusty sidebar if you’re so inclined.

Like you don’t have a million feeds to read yourself already.

This might be why bloggers have no ‘real life’ friends

(or maybe it’s just me)

Happy New Year, all. Here’s to another 365 days of shameless vicarious blogging.

I’m it

jennemede

Ooh, I got tagged by Karli, the Fabulous Balancing Juggling Mom on a Wire to participate in a Virtual Cocktail Party by telling you five things you might not know about me.

Hmm. I’m usually quite forthcoming about things. So these must be things I’ve somehow forgotten to mention the last 3.5 years, or have deliberately kept away from you, like:

1. how I used to have CRAZY dandruff and Lokes did too, but the moment we came to the States, it stopped! The only other times I stopped flaking was when I began taking folic acid when I was pregnant. The minute I popped and stopped, those pesky things came back. But now, I’ve not had one piece since a week after we landed in Washington. Isn’t that weird? Get rid of your dandruff! Move to the US!

2. how I still don’t know how to use chopsticks properly. Oh, I cross them obscenely like Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct. But they work, so who cares?

3. I am obsessed with buying stationeries and crafts. I love the smell of new paper. I love looking at the rows and rows of neatly arranged oil paints and brushes. I love love love the aisles and aisles of scrapbooking supplies, and beads of all shapes and sizes, and imagining THE POSSIBILITIES! Oh the beautiful, useless crap I will make!

When I discovered Ben Franklin (this huge crafts supermarket that sells beads and art supplies, yarn and knitting stuff, frames and canvases and easels, fake flowers and tailoring supplies - EVERYTHING UNDER THE SKY you can think of that you’d want to go nuts creative about. How come Malaysia does not have a store like this?!) and Joanne and Michaels, I just…thought I’d died and gone to heaven. It takes every ounce of my resolve every single time, to walk in and not just lie on the floor and make dust angels and then roll around a bit and kiss the ground and kiss the people who work there, and not spend all our money on craft supplies. It’s crazy.

4. I used to be a pretty good squash player. I mean, wore a short skirt, played for my school and everything.

5. I’m a great noodles cook. Anytime you guys wanna have chao mein, let me know. I’m also quite handy with pasta too.

Now, lemme see. I tag Sweetisu, Vien, Simmie, Pelf and Snooki!

Giving fives

jennemede

For the first time since I’ve started blogging, that I know of, I’ve been tagged. And by none other than one of the bubbliest ladies I’ve ever known (who was tagged by the talented Ms Karli).

Okay, lemme see…

Five things in my freezer:
1. pork chops
2. various chicken parts
3. Breyer’s Double Churn Strawberry ice cream!!
4. bacon
5. ‘fresh’ parsley

Five things in my closet:
1) clothes
2) Skyler’s old sling
3) nice paper bags I don’t have the heart to throw away and don’t have the heart to use
4) sexy black dress with a black tie string at the back I’d wanted my husband to ‘lace me up’ to go dancing whenever, that I never got to wear because I got pregnant right after I made it and now can fit only one of my thighs through.
5) three-inch black stilletos that go with the black dress - can’t wear them now ‘coz the laws of physics won’t allow it.

Five things in my car:
1) baby wipes
2) diapers
3) box of Teddy Grahams mixed with Pepperidge Farm goldfishes
4) laundry basket full of emergency clothes and towels for when I can’t keep the kids out of the water even when we never plan to visit a beach on any given day
5) pouch of ‘hair management’ items. Rae has crazy long hair that just does not stay organised.

Five things in my purse:
1) notepad
2) more ‘hair management’ items
3) old receipts
4) old candy
5) baby nailclipper - yes, I’m disgusting. I have carpeting all over the house so I clip my kids’ nails when we go to the park because I don’t want to vacuum. Shoot me.

Five people I tag (to encourage you guys to WRITE MORE!):
1) Hazel
2) Adriene
3) Erna (have you done this? I know you’re busy but nemind)
4) Asther
5) Jenn
