Booksurge in the Times

Seattletimes has a helpful story about self-publishing today and a site called Booksurge was recommended. $2799 is a little steep for the likes of me especially if it’s to squeeze my half-arsed writing out into an already brutal market but hey, who knows, it might work for you!

Hi,
A while back, maybe two or three months ago, “Dutch” discussed his self publishing. He had just put together an alphabet book for children based on urban graffiti. Go to his blog, Sweetjuniper, to read about it if you are interested–it was how to publish for next to nothing. It sounded really good to me.

I am a BookSurge published author. The total cost was $99, but I had to do all of the work myself. The book is available on Amazon.com just search for 1419659715. It doesn’t take long to recover the cost when it only costs $99.
I will point out that I tend to be a do it yourself kind of guy. My first exposure to printing and typesetting came before I even knew how to talk, but I didn’t start doing it myself until a few years later. I am also something of an artist, so designing my own cover and creating images for a book is just part of writing the book. I’m not sure that I would want someone else to design the cover, that is part of fun.
I am currently working on a novel, that I have titled “Searching For Mom.” The first draft is finished and I am working on the second draft now. When the time comes to publish it, I will probably go through BookSurge again.
