Bwalau

March 11th, 2007 by jennemede

Rae: Daddy, what does bwalau mean?

Lokes: Hah?

Rae: Bwalau

Lokes: Buah lau?

Rae: Yea, you said bwalau when Mommy threw down the diapers

Lokes: ?

Mommy (yelling from upstairs): She means *wa lau ah!

*Malaysian/Singaporean Chinese Hokkien expression that literally means “my old man” that is often used to connote shock/despair/anger/frustration/surprise/alarm/any form of dramatic exclamation. Use the same way as you would “Oh My God!” as in “Walau, what is that smell?!”

And for the record, those were clean diapers that I threw down.
