Selamat Hari Raya and Happy Deepavali, dear friends
This is our first year away from home, and away from our annual multicultural festivities.
I miss going rayaing. I miss rendang and murukku. I miss ketupat and satay. I miss all the Deepa-raya (to hell with you oversensitive pricks) ads. I miss all the free Nescafe along the highways during balik kampung. I miss all the gentle (and sometimes hysterical) pandu cermat reminders. I miss all the illegal fireworks.
Most of all, I miss the mad rush to finish work so that can enjoy the week-long holidays.
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all my Muslim friends reading this blog. Maaf zahir dan batin!
Happy Festival of Lights to all my Hindu friends. May the new year be blessed with many more bright victories!

yeah man, totally miss the gatherings and stuff. did ya know a couple of fridays ago was the mooncake festival? did ya do anything then? they were selling made in HK, made in China and also made in Brooklyn mooncakes but I didn’t buy. also not that cheap lah $18 for a box. It was too cold and windy that night to go out to “tam tamlung” so we switched off all the lights and let her “tam” around the living room. trying to keep the traditions alive in a foreign country!

*hug* Missed a week’s posts and can’t believe so much drama happened in such a short time. Hope things get better…and advice from a former insurance co. employee - budget for the U.S property taxes when you’re retired. Those things can be murder! All the case studies I had to read abt ppl losing their houses…aih.
I wouldn’t mind you writing for us again but the pay, as you know, is bloody peanuts. But even da boss is keen to have you writing for us again. I’d give you your own column! So if you feel the need for something to kill yr boredom, email me at ernaATmahyuni.com. Take care, babe.

Hi Jenn,
Selamat Hari Raya and Deepavali to you too!
Yup sure miss the celebrations. The Petronas ads… the Malay one also made me cry. sigh… made me miss my parents!
By the way, I’ve moved from Ohio to Toronto, Canada. So I feel your pain of having to pack and then unpack.
Take care.

Hi Jenn,
Yes, the Petronas raya ad made me cry too. It made reflect on my own responsibility and made me miss my parents. The city is extremely quiet and its the first time that I am in town during the long festive break. But its nice to drive without the jam!!

Luckily I’m moving with my fiance. Not so lonely this time. I’ve moved every year since 1999, so it’s nice to have someone to help me with my crap.
Thanks for asking.
