I know, I know. What’s happened to our house-buying business? A lot, that’s what. But the short of it is,
We got it.
Our dream townhouse in Duvall, WA.
WE GOT IT!
Not without much nailbiting anguish and waiting. I would very much prefer to bite like, food, but nails have less calories. I think.
Anyway, buying a home here in the US seems to be much more stressful than back home. In Malaysia, if you don’t have the downpayment of at least ten per cent of the purchase price, you can’t buy a house, full stop, so one doesn’t even try if one doesn’t have the downpayment. Effectively weeds out the broke.
Here, there are just so many options, it just makes your head spin. The lenders won’t rest until they make big fat debtors out of you. Which is exactly why I haven’t blogged about it is because it’s been a stressful, stressful journey and even thinking about it gives me headaches and even a little bit of a neckache.
It’s useless to talk about it here anyway ‘coz not like you guys can help or anything, what with your very busy schedules of reading blogs.
We are closing escrow next week and I’m collecting quotes for movers and cleaners and we’ve given notice to our landlords by writing them a very huge cheque for early lease termination.
Money. Just takin’ off. On wings.
Sigh.
All in all, we are broke. Completely and utterly buckin’ froke. We’re dieting because we just can’t afford to eat anymore.
But the important thing is we got it.
Yaaaaay *fists air weakly*.
happy happy joy joy!!
Can’t wait till it’s my turn!!!! LOL!!
Congrats!!! nothing like sitting in your very own dream home, even if broke!
Congratulations!!!!!! So happy for you. Time to start packing already eh?
Congratulations. We got it too recently and hope to get the keys next month and just like you guys, we’re broke!
Congrats, Jenn! I know how it is to buy a house here. I’m just glad mine is over with.
Congrats! There’s nothing like having a home of your own, nvm broke
Yay & Congrats!!We moved into our dream home last yr & I cldnt be happier. The packing was a killer as we had accumulated more than 10 yrs of junk.
Wow, congratulations!!!!
SUCH wonderful news, and yes, buying a house, with all its paperwork and finances, blah blah blah, is so stressful. When we bought our first house, I remember thinking to myself, “Man, thank goodness I’m not a smoker, because I would be smoking like a chimney from all the stress!!”
We have moved locally so much, the cheapest thing to do while still maintaining your sanity (not having to move yourself — I mean, come on, how are you supposed to do that with little kids?), I have found, is to hire power movers in Kirkland http://www.powermovers.com and you get your own truck from budget or Uhaul (they’ve told me Uhaul is taller and can fit couches end to end better). It ended up costing us maybe $500 – 600 a move instead of $2000. This is for a four bedroom house. lemme know if you have more questions
I’ve used power movers like 3-4 times now.
thanks everyone, and redheadmomma – that’s really helpful! U know back home, we pay like US$40 bucks for what we call a lorry with two helpers, no matter how long it takes hehe.
Congratulations new home owners! Yea – def hire movers. Lable which box goes into which room, and it will be all put into their respective places. Very stressful indeed. Hang in there.
Great news, Jenn! Take it easy..and most of all- enjoy the experience. It isn’t every day you buy a house.
We can’t wait for our turn..but for now, our little shoebox flat in Sydney will just have to do!
