Stark realisation

April 27th, 2005 by jennemede

I have never seen a Chinese serial which depicts inter-racial relationships. As its main plot OR something on the side.

I have seen the trailer of a movie where a Chinese man married a gwailo lady (a true story) during WWII, but it’s really shocking to realise that not even one Chinese serial show has within it a story or substory of an inter-racial relationship.

Is it because Hong Kong isn’t as multracial as Malaysia or Singapore? The first Hong Kongians I know were Indian, not Chinese, so that isn’t really accurate.

Or is it because us Chinese are sometimes regarded as the most conservative people on earth when it comes to dating outside our race? As in we can be the most racist?

What say you?
